white female teenager beaten by parents for having a black boyfriend

David and Frances Champion attacked their daughter and racially abused her boyfriend

A TEENAGE girl who was beaten by her parents for having a black boyfriend has stated that she forgives them.

Student Jane Champion, 18, was assaulted on two separate occasions by mother Frances Lee, 47, and father David, 50, after they learnt of her relationship with Zimbabwe-born Alfonce Ncube.

Mr Ncube was not only attacked by his girlfriend’s father, but also racially abused by both parents.

Last week, Champion and his wife were both jailed and branded "disgraceful" by a judge.

Jane Champion has revealed she is willing to reconcile with her parents

But despite the actions of her parents, Jane has revealed she does not hate them and hopes one day they can accept her and Mr Ncube’s love for one another.

She said: "Alfonce and I do love each other. How much? I’d say 10 out of 10.

"I’ve met his parents and they are not worried about the colour of my skin.

"They (my parents) have not said sorry to me yet.

"But I keep hope that they will do.

"Of course, I would forgive them and I hope we will be able to carry on."

Earlier this month, Swansea Crown Court heard Champion and his wife both had disapproved of their daughter’s relationship because of Mr Ncube’s race.

A judge learned how Jane’s father had shouted racist abuse at Mr Ncube, before grabbing him and kicking him on the back of his legs after finding him and his daughter alone together in his house in St Thomas, Swansea.

He then physically removed Mr Ncube from the house before grabbing his daughter by her hair and starting to hit her.

Following the incident, Jane went to stay with her grandmother but eventually returned once things had calmed down.

However, a few weeks later she was assaulted by both her parents after she told them she was still in a relationship with Mr Ncube.

While her father continued to beat her, her mother yelled abuse, telling her daughter she "deserved it" and accused her of "bringing shame on her family".

After admitting charges of assault and using racially abusive language, Champion was sentenced to 12 months custody – while his wife was given a nine-month jail term.

Reflecting on the events of the past 18 months, their daughter Jane spoke of her disbelief to ITV1 programme This Morning about the situation.

"My parents were loving people and I had never had any problems with them before," she added.

Jane said her mother had found out first about her relationship with Mr Ncube – and "did not seem bothered".

However, things soon changed when her father caught the pair in his house together – resulting in the first attack on the couple.

Mr Ncube, who appeared alongside Jane on This Morning, denied reports they had been "in a state of undress" and had been in fact revising for an economics exam.

But while he could understand Champion being protective over his daughter – the 21-year-old could not understand why he was hated simply because he was black.

"I am not going to generalise of the whole population where we live," he said.

"I have had problems before this incident.

"I just think when is it going to change?"

The couple, who have since moved in together, also told This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford there might be difficulties in the future should Jane’s parents come around to visit.

However, Mr Ncube added: "They know we love each other and are living together. Jane should be able to visit them. I think that they are kind of adapting to it."
